2010 UCI Worlds race report

UCI Worlds 2010 – Its been a few weeks ago, and looking back on the Worlds gives me a double feeling, the preparation towards the race didnt go as i wanted it to go.. After a crash during a race in norway I hurted my wrist, so most of our prep camp in Denmark on the supercross track I missed unfortunately!! So didnt spend much time going of the SX ramp.

After this camp I felt allright cause I had more then enough rest.. maybe thats why I didnt really peaked at the Worlds. I just didnt felt as comfortable as I should have felt.. But after the practise days I had the track dialed in.. Next day we started early with timetrials in the morning, after TT I finished 27th with a really bad lap on this long and bumpy track. Later on this “way to long” day, we had to race..??  Had a pretty tough rack but I qualified after a 1-4-5, which gave me an outside lane in the 1/4 final. I had a good gate on the outside but simply couldnt move over, Willers past me in the first turn and I ran into a crash coming out of the first turn.. and it was over&out!! V/d Biezen made an Elite main event after 5 straight years for Holland and Twan and Merle both had a good result with a bronze and GOLD medal!!!

Italy Round 3&4

Italy, Perugia was our next stop.
A few riders of the team didnt want to race Italy
cause they wanted to focus on the next SX World Cup a week later
in Denmark Copenhagen.

After a good flight we arrived in Rome, and from their we drove towards our hotel in Perugia.
The same evening we had practise, the track looked steep and dangerous from the side lines and after
a few laps you could tell it was. You couldnt go for the fully 100%  cause that would give you troubles.
First raceday was saturday, before we even started the ambulance allready drove up and down to the hospital
a lot of times.

Motos took them 3 hours to handle cause of all the crashes.
My teammate Scherpen crashed hard, he is doing ok now but he had to stay in the hospital for more then a week.
So you can tell how dangerous it was.. but even after 40 crashes the organisation didnt do ANYTHING about it.
Anyway I qualified myself for my first european elite main..
I didnt had the gate I wanted but after a good first and second turn I was in 3th place.
Followed 31 and 777 around the track, try to make a move after the last jump but the engine was empty.
Before the main we allready knew that we wouldnt race on sunday for round 4 cause, we wanted to make
statement. If the track is to dangerous and the organisation/trackmanager is not responding on the riders comment and imput
then we have to pull back and hopefully they will start listen to the riders!!! SOMETIME!!!!!

TC 2 Heiloo

Next stop was at our 2nd national of the year in Heiloo.
Came home on Thursday after spending a extra 5 days in Seoul
cause of the Vulcano. Sitting there and not able to go home sucks.
We had a few options to go to, but somehow it didnt work out.

After we finally got a flight back home,  we knew it was going to be a hard week.
I was so tired and was having a hard time to get back in my normal rythm.
Skipped the timetrial on saturday to get some extra sleep in.

On sunday still felt like I came straight out of the plain…
Burning legs, no focus, no feeling with my bike.
Ended up in semi’s, after a good first straight I got tangled up and
pushed over the turn. Oh well it wasnt a good day anyway.

Seoul, Korea

First off all sorry for my lack of updating..
We have been traveling a lot the last few weeks
and to be honest the network connection is sometimes a pain in the ass.

I dont know were to start but I think Seoul, Korea is a good one to start with.
This trip was planned a couple months ago, I was even excited to go.
But that quickly changed, from the very first moment we stepped into our plain
it smelled horrible. Anyway, this should be a very short trip, race there dont get
used to the timediffrence and fly back home.
But the day after we left home, a stupid vulcano exploded and the whole airtraffic
programm was upset, everywere in europe flights got canceld.
We arrived in Seoul after a 15hour trip in totall.
The flight wasnt that bad, cause I slept the most of it lol.

Practise was on the program the next day, track looked as it came straight out of
the UCI rulebook. (flat turns, stupid small jump and a startramp steep as F*CK.
Beside that the organisation did there best and treathed us like real PRO’S…
Timetrials next day (handclocked) for some reason but i made it around 7th fastest time.
Race next day took forever, but it was fun.
The more laps I got in the more I started to like it there in SEOUL.
Made it to the main, got unlucky crashed while I was in 4th place and ended up 7th.

Besancon

Sometimes thinks dont go as you had in mind.
This was one of those weekends for me.
The weather forecast for this first race weekend was RAIN and it did.
Good thing is European tracks can handle some rain and true the weekend
the track stayed in a good shape.

Thursday morning me and Scherpen drove to Eindhoven
where we meet the rest of the team.
Starting our trip by car, 6 hours later we arrived in Novotel Besancon.
Did a little track walk and we all had the same idea, FUN track BAD turns!!
Friday afternoon practise was on, as soon as the first Elite riders were hitting the track
it start to poor down big time!!! Did a few laps but it wasnt worth it.

Saturday racing started, the first european round of 2010.
My moto wasnt the hardest rack out there, finished 1-1-1.
1/8 final, this time my rack was stacked..
Missed the gate and I was behind the whole lap.. Couldnt fight myself back
in the pack and I was done for today.

Sundays racing started a bit earlier. Round 2 on the programm.
Felt better then yesterday, finished 2-3-2 in my motos and again 1/8 finals.
This time my gate was a bit better but Hamon came over , I took the inside
going into the first turn in 2nd place, on the second straight Hamon bubbled and slow me down.
Liam 65 passed me and after that everything went wrong, again my day ended in the 1/8 finals.
Totally unexpected to end up my weekend with these results, but you never know in BMX.
Anyway still a lot of work to do!!!

SX Madrid Race report

Next stop was Spain,
Madrid for the first UCI World Cup off the 2010 season.

I felt ok true
the week, the track looked nice with the weird boxjump but soon in turned out
into a really soft and dangerous track. Practise started I was in group A and
had some problems with my timing at the gate. After practise the UCI decide to
change the track a little, but that didnt turned out great.

Timetrial was on
the next day, I dont know why but riding the track with nobody else on the gate
is still totally diffrent then racing and it doesnt make sense to me why they
give points for timetrials. Anyway I finished 29th overall after a bad lap so I
did qualified out of the first TT but I wasnt happy with it. The whole team
made it. (only TvG 126 crashed in practise)

Same day was race
day, not what we are used. Rob and myself had a do able rack and both qualified.
In the ¼ final I had a good gate, going into the first turn with 3 people
battling for the last and qualifying spot, on the boxjump it started to get
really hectic, I made it true and followd Connor who was in third, he made a
little mistake out of the last turn so I passed him and got 3th which meant
another semi final and again a top 16 finish. Semi final on the gate, this
whole event was stacked and it wasnt diffrent in my semi. I had a good snap but
somehow couldnt accelerate the way I wanted, got tangled up in the first turn
and from there it was game over, had a stupid crash on the last straight and
that was it.

Not really happy
with the result of that race but overall I can be statisfied especially if I
compare it to 3 a 4 weeks ago.

Chula Vista last update

Where to start…
Its been pretty busy here lately.
A lot of training that is getting done before the season started.
Had a good photoshoot for Redline on wednesday, in the surrounding are close to the otc,
and some on the OTC track. (see picture)
We also had some rain and hard wind last week which forced us to be creative with our schedule.
Still we where able to do what was nessacary.

Race in Phoenix was planned last weekend.
With the idea of coming out of a 3 week trainingcamp on a SX hill/track in our heads,
we knew that would give us some problems at the ABA National on a flat normal ABA style bmx track.
In practise I allready felt that the power simply wasnt there.. no pull nothing.
Next day race day, my first moto was good but after a DQ in my second moto I knew it was hard to manage true.
I finished last in 3th round so just motos for me.
Next day it was suppose to rain and after the first moto it did. I finished in dead last again, Im not in a good shape and
for the first time in my life I stopped. Second moto was on and I was sitting in the team area watching how the rain
took over the race and turned it into a MUD race.

Coming back in San Diego we had 2 easy days, visit TroyLeeDesigns and Oakley which was fun..
Somehow I got sick last night, feeling really bad, so today ive been in bad allday.
1 more day of training for the team and then on sunday we will leave sunny SOCAL after spending here almost 1 month.
