The story about Jelle:
It all started at a very young age, Jelle rode his little bicycle around the block on 2 wheels already before he turned 3 years old. In the neighbour-hood were Jelle grew up all the kids had bikes and made their own jumps out of wood and bricks!! After a while he visited the local track and he got his first ever BMX bike from his mothers aunt, later in that same year (1995) in October Jelle did his first district race in Wijchen and he and his family felt in love with the sport.
That same winter his dad (John) bought his son a real 20inch BMX bike, a purple Sunn for his 5th birthday. A real BMX bike, he was overwhelmed and rode it as much as he could from that day on. In that same year (1996) Jelle was 5 years old, but rode in the category 7 years and younger, he managed to pull out the national #5 plate.
The year after when he turned 6 years old, he was the oldest and dominated this same class. He became national #1 and won his first international race, the European championships Challenge for 6 years old boys!!!!
After that a lot of National, European and World titles followed..
On the age of 18 years old Jelle turned PRO and that gives him the oppurtunity to realize his dreams. Thanks to the fully support from the Dutch Olympic Commite: NOS*NSF.
“From a very young age Jelle watched the Olympic Summer Games on television and he knew that was something he wanted to achieve”.
