Training camp 1

Ive been back in the daily training schedule now for a couple weeks. Had a few ups and downs but happy to be back working out again and do what I love to do most: which is riding my BMX Bike.

At the moment I’m in Laguna for almost a week now, I am here for our first training camp  in preparation for the 2013 season. Most of you already probably heard, I’m back on a Meybo BMX bike.. build up with the really cool components from BOX & Promax!!! Really stoked about that. At the moment we are in a strength building phase so a lot of long and heavy sessions are on the program. I will try to update next week with some cool shots from this awesome spot!!!!

Injury update

Here we are again, same story same SH*%^$T.

Last Tuesday I went to Bikepark Winterberg in Germany with the dutch development team to work on some bike skills in a total different but really fun way. Rent a downhill bike over there and started at 10 am. Had some problems to get used to the bike but after a couple of runs I started to get some feeling with this machine and had some goodtimes going down that “hill”. After lunch (I said to myself start on the play-section to warmup a bit) we geared up again and I started getting really excited, so didn’t start at the play-section but right away at the downhill section, half way the run something happened right in front of me and in a split second I pulled my brakes but Im not used to a front-brake with this said you can kind of make up yourself what happened!!? Went over the bars straight into a 4 meter gap filled with rocks and trees land on my wist with my upper body and twisted it. Got up and finished that run, by the time I was sitting in the ski lifts, my wrist started to hurt more and I decided to call it quit for today. In first place I thought it was just a bit bruised and stiff but the pain got worse, so i decided to go to the hospital the day after but the xrays didn’t show anything so had a chat with the Doctors and Physic’s at the OTC Papendal and they decided to go for a MRI scan the next day, the outcome of thats was a broken Metacarpal in my hand, close to my wrist. So that explained the pain I had. Since last friday im in a cast and I will have that for at least another 1,5 week from now on.

2012 was suppose to be “my” year especially after my 2011 season but it turned out a totally different! Realizing even more that I did some steps backwards instead off forwards. Im hungry to train hard this winter but at the same time still dealing with injuries from last season which drives me crazy sometimes!!! But there are worse things in life and probably a lot of you already noticed what happened with Kyle Bennett#88.. this is really sad news, he passed away and thats a big lost for the BMX WORLD, he was one of my all-time favorites and I will always remember him as a really good professional athlete with the right attitude but most important a REALLY nice  person!!!! So I stop complaining and ending of this update with saying that all my thoughts are with his family and relatives!!!

Olympic Games, Holidays & back to business!!

To make a long story short, the olympic games were awesome but my results were disappointing. You dont have to be a certified doctor or trainer/coach or psychologist to know why I didn’t get the result I was hoping for. After this whole experience was over I realized even more that this were the OLYMPICS and that I was there competing, unfortunately my body wasnt fully recovered and definitely not good enough to be in the mix and have a shot for a Medal!! After this I was really looking forward  to a long brake without BMX cause I was pretty much done with BMX, didn’t do anything for 4,5 weeks. Went on holidays to Croatia and had some awesome downtime, were I had plenty enough time to really rest and enjoyed every bit of it. After that I tried to pick up some normal life routines and started to work out again. 2 weeks ago I really started training serious again and this last week I joined the development program under the supervision of Rob vd Wildenberg and I will do that for at least another week to let my body get used to a proper program again. Its good to be back and I’m really enjoying my time with this team. If the weather stays good this week and If I can spend some more time with my BMX bike, only then theres a small change Im racing a National in Kampen this weekend.

Last update before the games..

Hi Everyone,

Here is my last update before the games, I didn’t had the time to update or edit a short movie so sorry for that..

But tomorrow we will have a little photo shoot with our race uniforms for the games and if you ask me they look really nice.

At the moment I’m doing pretty good, I know I did everything that I could have done so no matter what happens I will be satisfied!

After everything that happened Im already happy that I made the Olympic team, not even 4 months ago I was still in a coma on the IC at the Scripps hospital in San Diego and I had to start all over again.. only back on my bike for 2,5 months now and look where I am right now.. So like I said I am happy with where I’m at right now and I’m going to push it to the max!!!!

London is coming closer

here another update from me.

At the moment I’m living at the Olympic training center Papendal with the olympic team (Raymon, Twan en Laura). We eat, sleep and train here every day and as the most of you know the sign at the entrance of Papendal is counting down and each day we are getting closer to the games. Its really nice to work towards just one tournament for such a long time, you know its all worth it at the end of this period. Physically I’m getting stronger and better which is really motivating and of course it goes with ups and downs but we try to stay positive and work as hard as we can.. At the end of the week I will give you a short video update about how we are doing and how we are feeling about the olympics!!

Update 2: Jelle #37

After a couple of difficult days I at least heard from the Doctors good news and on Sathurday before Eastern the ventilator got out and I was aible to speak again some words!

It costed me a lot of ice cubes to get some enough voice control again but it was wonderful to communicate!
It was also great for Bas to see that, because he should leave that day to go to the Netherlands and my teammates to prepare for the SX in Norway.

Some hours later I left Intensive Care and became on the 10th Floor at room 24 and we started with my recovering program and I could eat and drink normally!
I got a lot of tests and after 2 days the doctors where glad with the progress and they discharged me!

So I could go to the Mariott Hotel where my Father was staying and thats was Super!
Of course I was very tired and slept still a lot but every day that is getting better and so we have now a little Quality time for us and thats also good for my recovering.

And I saw all the reactions on Facebook, Twitter and mail and got information about the many people who are concerned.
All the reacts are wonderful and will help me to recover!

Thanks and greetings.

Greetings,

Update Jelle #37

Many people were watching the Supercross race when Jelle crashed and many were very concerned about him and tried to find out how he was at all. All weekend you heard many different stories, some were very scary for us.

Thanks to Bas de Bever how is still with him in the hospital in San Diego and for to his help to contact us every morning about Jelle’s condition! Also thanks to every one in the hospital how helped him with his injuries and the care to give him. And of course the KNWU for their help to Jelle and Bas.

At this momen he’s still has to breath with a ventilator to help his lungs and is in a sleepcondition, further a couple off broken ribs and a deep cut in his knee and a heavy concussion! So Jelle has still a long way to go but all signs are good! We have not yet spoken with Jelle since the accident but John will fly on friday to the States, and directly go to visit him at the hospital.

Thanks to all the people how send us and Jelle the best wishes and we will send a update later on this week! Hopefully he will be back and healthy soon!

Greetings,

Sanne, Jelle, John en José van Gorkom
